MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Former NFL player Aaron Hernandez will not attend trial in Miami for a civil lawsuit seeking damages after a former friend was shot in the face.
Documents filed in Miami federal court this week show the Nov. 30 trial of Alexander Bradley's lawsuit will begin without Hernandez.
Bradley seeks damages for the loss of his right eye in the February 2013 shooting, which took place after he and Hernandez left a Miami strip club.
The once-budding star for the New England Patriots is currently serving life in prison for the murder of Odin Lloyd in 2013, who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee.
Hernandez also faces murder charges in Boston, accused of gunning down two men outside of a nightclub in 2012. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.
In May, Hernandez was indicted for witness intimidation, allegedly trying to silence Bradley, who was reportedly a witness to the Boston murders, by shooting him in the face and leaving him for dead in West Palm Beach.
