Woman Commits Suicide On Elementary School Campus In Lake View Terrace

LAKE VIEW TERRACE (CBS) — The body of a woman was discovered Friday morning on the campus of an elementary school in the San Fernando Valley, police said.

Officials received a call about the body around 7:15 a.m. at Brainard Elementary, 11407 Brainard Avenue, in Lake View Terrace, police said.

Parents told CBS2's Amy Johnson that students found the woman hanging from a tree and alerted school leaders.

"There were kids in the office crying hysterically . . . they saw the woman hanging from the tree, so those kids are devastated," said parent Martha Sanchez.

Los Angeles police say the death was a suicide.

The identity of the woman, who was in her 30s, was not released.

School officials say the woman was not a staff member or a parent at Brainard Elementary.

Crisis counselors remained on campus Friday for students in need.
