Woman Who Hit Man With Wineglass Because He Didn't Like Blondes Gets Probation
SANTA MONICA (CBS) — A woman pleaded no contest Wednesday to hitting a man in the head with a wine glass in a Santa Monica restaurant after he said he didn't like blondes.
Anastasia Atwil, 40, who had brunette hair with blonde highlights in her police mug shot, entered her plea to charges of assault with a deadly weapon and assault with great bodily injury after a judge reduced the charge to a misdemeanor.
The altercation happened on Dec. 15 of last year, at Miyako Restaurant, when Atwil apparently overheard Steve Noble make a comment about "not having an affinity" for blonde women to two female companions at his table, according to Santa Monica Patch.
Atwil interrupted the conversation and said she took offense, Patch reported, and told Noble he shouldn't generalize.
After a brief argument, Noble left the table and when he returned, Atwil walked over to him and hit him over the head behind his right ear with a wine glass, according to Patch.
Noble testified he had to miss a day of work after going to the emergency room at St. John's Health Center, where they cleaned his wounds and removed glass.
Atwil was placed on probation, assigned 200 hours of community service, ordered to stay 100 yards away from Noble, Patch reported, and she also wrote him a check for $340 in restitution.
