RIVERSIDE (CBS) — Authorities say a woman was found shot to death in the middle of a street in a quiet residential neighborhood west of Riverside Community College and a search was under way for her killer.

The victim, whose name was being withheld, was found by officers about 9:40 p.m. Saturday in the 2700 block of Prospect Avenue.

Riverside police were dispatched to the location after receiving reports of a possible assault, but upon arrival found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Dan Russell said in a department statement that a motive for the shooting was not immediately known.
