Woman Dies In Elevator Accident At CSU Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBS) — One person was killed Wednesday in an elevator accident at Cal State Long Beach.

Firefighters received a call around 8:45 a.m. about a woman trapped in an elevator in the Foundation Building, at Palo Verde Avenue and Anaheim Road, Long Beach fire officials said.

By the time firefighters responded to the scene, the woman had died from her injuries, CSU Long Beach spokesman Tony Barone said.

According to an initial investigation, the elevator had become stuck between floors when the woman tried to climb out and was crushed by the doors after it shifted, officials said.

The victim was an employee and worked in the building, Barone said.

Employees told CBS2's Kristine Lazar that the woman was in her 40s and a mother of two children.
