62-year-old man killed near Menifee after crash with street sweeper

A 62-year-old man was killed during a crash with a street sweeper in the Winchester area near Menifee on Thursday morning.

In a news release from the California Highway Patrol, officers said that the collision happened a little after 6 a.m. on westbound lanes of Domenigoni Parkway near Prairie Loop Road.

Police believe that the man, identified by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office - Coroner as Winchester man Jose Ibarra, collided with the back of the 33,000-pound street sweeper with his Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. The force of the impact sheared part of the truck's cab off, police said.

Ibarra was pronounced dead at the scene by Riverside County Fire Department paramedics.

Police said that no other injuries were reported in the crash.

Officers with the Menifee Police Department assisted CHP with the investigation, blocking the westbound side of Domenigoni from other drivers so they could survey the scene.

The road was not reopened until just before 10:30 a.m.

Anyone who may know more was asked to contact CHP's San Gorgonio Office at (951) 846-5300.
