SAN DIEGO (AP) — Donald Trump's lawyers don't want any statements he made during the presidential campaign mentioned in an upcoming civil trial over Trump University.
Attorney Daniel Petrocelli filed a motion in federal court in San Diego late Thursday seeking to exclude statements by or about the Republican presidential nominee. That includes his tweets, tax issues or any "personal conduct accusations."
It also includes statements during the presidential debates and audio or video recordings that have emerged during the campaign. Petrocelli argues that it is irrelevant to the case and may prejudice a jury.
The civil fraud lawsuit over the now-defunct Trump University is set to begin Nov. 28.
Trump's attorney also wants to bar Trump's comments that the judge overseeing the case cannot preside fairly over it because of his Mexican heritage.
