Trial Could Classify Child Rapist As Sexually Violent Predator

SANTA ANA (AP) — Orange County prosecutors say a man convicted of sexually abusing two girls in 1983 will face a trial on their bid to have him classified as a sexually violent predator.

District attorney spokeswoman Susan Kang Schroeder said Thursday that Judge W. Michael Hayes ruled Wednesday a trial could go ahead for Lawrence Brown.

She says Brown's next court hearing is March 9. No trial date has been set.

Prosecutors are seeking to have Brown declared a predator and have him committed to a mental institution after he was rearrested on a parole violation following his release from prison in November.

Brown abducted and assaulted two girls in Santa Ana in 1983.
