Suspected Burglar Gunned Down in Menifee Home

RIVERSIDE (CBS) — A man who was allegedly attempting to burglarize a Menifee home was fatally shot by the tenant, according to a Riverside County sheriff's sergeant.

Sammy White, 38, was killed around noon Wednesday after he tried to force his way into a house on Badger Creek Lane.

An occupant of the house – who was not identified – called 911 saying that a man was breaking into the residence, Sgt. Brian Reno said.

Moments later, a neighbor called 911 after reportedly hearing gunshots fired at the location.

Deputies arrived within minutes and discovered White gravely wounded, Reno said.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene and the resident was not hurt.

No arrests were made, but detectives are continuing to investigate, the sergeant said.
