Student Accused Of Killing Security Guard Instructor In Class
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police Wednesday arrested a man in connection with the fatal shooting of a security guard training instructor in a downtown Los Angeles classroom.
Shortly before 4 p.m., 22-year-old Law Thien Huynh, of Gardena, left his classroom at the Coast Career Institute on Hill Street, near Pico Boulevard and then returned and kicked the door open, according to police.
Huynh then began firing a handgun at instructor, Roberto Herrera, 44, according to Lieutenant Paul Vernon of the LAPD's Central Division.
Herrera, who had worked in the security industry and had taught at the school as a side job for three years, died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, Vernon said.
Huynh was initially resistant to arrest -- wanting to finish smoking a cigarette -- but he was handcuffed a short time later, Vernon said. He will be booked on murder charges.
A motive for the shooting was not immediately known.
