Student Charged With Shooting Security Guard Instructor
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A student has been charged with fatally shooting his vocational school instructor during a class for security guards in Los Angeles.
Law Thien Huynh pleaded not guilty Friday after being charged with one count of murder, with enhanced gun use allegations that carry a penalty of 50 years to life in prison.
The 22-year-old defendant was ordered held on $2 million bail.
Authorities said Huynh argued with Roberto Herrera, a security guard training instructor at Coast Career Institute on Wednesday before walking out of the classroom. They say he returned with a firearm and shot Herrera several times in the head.
Police have not released a motive for the shooting.
A preliminary hearing has been set for March 9.
