More than 22,000 Long Beach residents without power due to SoCal Edison outage
More than 22,000 Long Beach residents lost power Sunday night due to a Southern California Edison outage, all in the midst of a sweltering wave of heat.
SoCal Edison officials told CBS LA that the outage began at 6:40 p.m. and left 22,066 customers without power at its peak. They said that additional crews and resources were mobilized to help troubleshoot the issue and restore service.
"Our crews are focused on restoring power as quickly and safely as possible and then we will look into the cause," an SCE spokesperson said.
As of 8:30 p.m., there was no estimated restoration time.
According to SCE, the outage boundaries affected people living:
- east of Quincy Avenue
- west of Alamitos Avenue
- north of E. Ocean Boulevard
- south of E. 7th Street
The outage comes during what could be Southern California's hottest week of the year. On Sunday, Long Beach's high was 93 degrees and most of the area was under an extreme heat watch.
