Police: Singer Sinead O'Connor Found Safe After Well-Being Check

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — Police in suburban Chicago say Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O'Connor has been found safe.

Wilmette police spokesman Eric Peterson said Monday that O'Connor has been located, though he wouldn't say where she was found.

But he says the singer "is safe and no longer considered a missing or endangered person."

It's unclear why she was in Wilmette, which is an upper-class suburb about 15 miles north of Chicago along the shores of Lake Michigan.

Police released a statement Monday morning saying they had put out a well-being check for O'Connor after she reportedly went on a bike ride Sunday morning and never returned.

A CBS Chicago photojournalist snapped a photo with O'Connor during a visit to Wilmette in early May. She had been staying in the north suburb and collaborating with musicians there, according to CBS Chicago.

O'Connor was sued this month by comedian Arsenio Hall over her Facebook post that stated investigators looking into the supplier of drugs used by Prince should question Hall. She also accused him of drugging her. The lawsuit seeks $5 million.

She scored a career-making hit in 1990 with her rendition of Prince's ballad, "Nothing Compares 2 U," which topped charts from Europe to Australia, and earned O'Connor multiple Grammy Award nominations. In 1991, O'Connor was named Artist of the Year by Rolling Stone.

O'Connor also made headlines in 1992 when she tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II while appearing live on NBC's "Saturday Night Live."
