Search For Missing Seal Beach Swimmer Called Off Because Of Darkness
SEAL BEACH (CBS) — An hours-long search for a missing swimmer off Surfside Beach in Seal Beach has been called off because of darkness, said officials.
The swimmer was described in his early 20s and was reported missing about 6 p.m. by friends, according to Nick Bolin, the Marine safety officer for Seal Beach.
Stu Mundel, reporting over the scene in Sky9, said an all-out search was made for the man including patrol boats, Seal Beach and Huntington Beach lifeguards, divers and even a search by Huntington Beach Police by air and Orange County firefighters along the shoreline.
Juan Fernandez reporting for KCAL9, said that four friends went into the water and were told lifeguards were going off-duty and that the men should be extra careful if they were going in to the water because of increasing rip tides.
Only three of the men came out. The missing man's paddle board returned to shore, reported Fernandez.
