'Scarface' Actor Involved In Malibu Pedestrian Crash

MALIBU (CBS) — Authorities say actor Steven Bauer was the driver of a sport utility vehicle that struck and injured a Pepperdine University student in Malibu.

The crash happened Friday evening on Pacific Coast Highway near Pena Canyon, according to officials at the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff's station.

The 56-year-old actor was driving east on PCH when authorities say he struck 24-year-old Brent Rosenberg of Malibu, who was walking to his car parked on the east side of the road.

One car slowed and stopped for Rosenberg, and when he stepped into traffic, he was reportedly hit by Bauer's SUV.

Officials said Rosenberg suffered major trauma and was taken via helicopter to UCLA Medical Center. He remains in critical condition Saturday.

While the investigation into the crash continues, officials said there is no indication that alcohol or speed contributed to the incident.

Bauer has appeared in popular police dramas such as "Cold Case," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," and "Burn Notice." Bauer may be best known for playing Manny Ribera in "Scarface."

The Cuban-born actor was first noticed in the acclaimed bilingual PBS series of the 1970s called "?Que Pasa U.S.A.?"
