Santa Ana mother located in Mexico after being reported missing during family trip in Tijuana

A Santa Ana mother has been located in Mexico after she was reported missing during a family trip to Tijuana, police said.

The Santa Ana Police Department said detectives confirmed 21-year-old Yasmin Gonzalez Benitez is "voluntarily in Mexico."

Gonzalez Benitez was initially reported missing after she got into a car with relatives and headed across the border to visit her brother. She wasn't supposed to be gone longer than a day.

Officers said Gonzalez Benitez's roommate, who was taking care of her 4-year-old daughter while she was gone, tried to contact her but never heard back. Her daughter remains in the custody of Child Protective Services.

During their investigation to locate Gonzalez Benitez, Officer Natalie Garcia said detectives made numerous attempts to contact her mother and brother, who were uncooperative.
