San Bernardino Man, 41, Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Car From Sheriff's Station In Hemet
HEMET (CBS) — Authorities arrested a 41-year-old San Bernardino man for allegedly stealing an unmarked Riverside County sheriff's car from a locked yard in Hemet.
The car has been recovered and the suspect was also arrested for impersonating a peace officer in connection with the car theft, deputies said Sunday.
David Anthony Battle was arrested without incident by Riverside County sheriff's deputies at 4 p.m. Saturday at a residence in the 2400 block of Rosemary Lane in San Bernardino, said sheriff's Cpl. Courtney Donowho.
The unmarked Crown Victoria had been taken from the sheriff's Hemet station, 43950 Acacia Ave., sometime between Wednesday night and 11 a.m. Thursday, according to Donowho.
She said the sedan was located about 5:30 p.m. the same day in a parking structure in the 300 block of North E Street in San Bernardino.
"Nothing was damaged, and there was nothing missing," Donowho said.
The Hemet station parking lot is protected by an iron fence. A pass-code is required to open a gate leading into the lot. It is unclear how Battle gained entry.
Battle was booked into the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta on Saturday for charges that included suspicion of illegally possessing a firearm, receiving known stolen property, felony petty theft with priors and impersonating a peace officer.
Bail was set at $75,000.
