Blockbuster Trade With Red Sox 'Largest In Dodger History'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Dodgers announced in a statement Saturday that a blockbuster trade involving the Boston Red Sox has been finalized.

"We continue to do everything in our power to strengthen our team for the stretch drive in an effort to reach the postseason," said Dodger General Manager Ned Colletti in a statement. "This trade today exemplifies ownership's commitment to making the team as good as possible not only for 2012 but for many seasons to come."

Under the nine-player deal, the Dodgers will send first-baseman James Loney, right-handed pitcher Allen Webster, infielder Ivan DeJesus, as well as two unnamed players, to Boston

In exchange, the team will receive first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, right-handed pitcher Josh Beckett, outfielder Carl Crawford and utility player Nick Punto.

The trade is apparently the largest in Dodger history, the statement said.

On Saturday morning, Gonzalez said via Twitter that he was excited to be back in California.

The Dodgers will now be responsible for Gonzalez's contract of $127 million through 2017, Crawford's $102.5 million through 2017, and Beckett's $31.5-million through 2014.
