Public's Help Sought In Identifying Pair Suspected In Lotto Scam
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Los Angeles police detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying a pair suspected in a lottery scam that began on Jan. 12 of this year.
The Spanish-speaking suspects – identified only as a man and a woman - have reportedly duped six victims in Harbor City, Wilmington and San Pedro, a news release issued by the Los Angeles Police Department stated.
According to police, the pair claim to have winning California lottery tickets but tell their victims they are unable to cash in their earnings because they are illegal.
Police say they then promise to split their winnings if the victim agrees to pretend to be the winner to the State Lottery Authority and in exchange, the victim must turn over something of value.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Los Angeles Police Department detectives at (310) 726 7900.
