LOS ANGELES (CBS) — As if the long lines and restless crowds weren't enough to turn any Christmas shopping trip into a massive ordeal, now the LAPD says officers will be stepping up enforcement in and around the downtown area, and pedestrians should consider themselves warned.

Officer Lt. Paul Vernon says the area around Spring Street and Main Street will be under increased surveillance by officers looking for "scofflaws" in violation of pedestrian or other safety ordinances.
