East LA speeding pursuit suspect surrenders to officers after standoff at Bell home
A California Highway Patrol officer-led pursuit of a speeding white Toyota through East Los Angeles ended after the suspect surrendered following a standoff at a home in the city of Bell.
The pursuit began around 11 a.m., as CHP officers were following the speeding Toyota, at times topping 100 mph. The driver raced along the 710 and 5 Freeways, driving recklessly and winding through residential neighborhoods.
At one point during the pursuit, the driver stopped at a gas station before taking off again through surface streets. CHP officers backed off the pursuit and moved to tracking the driver.
At River Drive and Filmore Street in Bell, the driver pulled into a driveway, got out of the car, and went into a house. CHP officers and the city of Bell police officers surrounded the home, waiting for the suspect to come out. The suspect exited the house with his hands above his head, surrendering to officers around 12:18 p.m.
