Police Chase Ends With Multi-Vehicle Crash; Toddler Unhurt

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA.com/AP) — Police say a man driving a stolen vehicle led officers on a high-speed pursuit Friday night for about a half hour before colliding into multiple vehicles, then spinning out of control.

Officer Matthew Ludwig of the Los Angeles Police Department says the chase began about 9:45 p.m. in Sherman Oaks when officers noticed the car had a broken headlight. The pursuit ended about 10:10 p.m.

SKY9 was overhead when the dark-colored car rammed into vehicles stopped at an intersection before spiraling out of control.

Ludwig says officers have arrested the male driver and a female passenger. They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Their identities have not yet been released.

Police found a toddler inside the suspects' vehicle who wasn't in a car seat or wearing a seat belt. That child was not injured and taken into protective custody.

A woman in one of the cars struck at the intersection was hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

A couple in another vehicle struck had a baby in the car.

"My first reaction was to look at my baby, and my baby just froze. We saw one of the ladies run out of her car. We had no idea what was going on," crash victim Azizia Mughal said. "My husband and I were just trying to get the baby out of our car because we didn't know what was going on."
