Plane Crash That Devastated Cerritos Remembered 30 Years Later
CERRITOS (CBSLA.com) — Wednesday marked a somber anniversary of a tragedy that killed 82 people in Cerritos.
Thirty years ago a small plane collided with an Aeromexico jet as it approached Los Angeles International Airport. The DC-9 plunged into a home on Ashworth Place killing everyone on board and 15 on the ground.
The community gathered at the Cerritos Sculpture Garden to place flowers in honor of those who died.
CBS2's Dave Lopez, who covered the crash that day, talked to Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, who was mayor of Cerritos at the time. He recalls the horrific scene that devastated the L.A. suburb.
