Pentagon Confirms Suspect In Hollywood Pursuit Served As Tactical Driver For US Marine Corps

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — One of two suspects involved in a wild, rainy-day pursuit through Hollywood is a former U.S. Marine, the Pentagon confirmed Friday.

Herschel Reynolds, 20, entered active duty as a motor vehicle operator for the Marines in April 2014 in El Segundo and ended his service in January, according to U.S. Marine Corps spokesperson Sarah Burns.

He held the rank of Private and earned a National Defense Service Medal and a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal while with the 1st Marine Logistics Group at Camp Pendleton, Burns said.

Reynolds had no deployments on his record and his "premature discharge and rank are indicative of the fact that the character of his service was incongruent with Marine Corps' expectations and standards", said Burns.

Reynolds and his passenger, Isaiah Young, 19, were arrested Thursday after leading officers on a wild pursuit from Cerritos through South Los Angeles that lasted nearly 90 minutes and included several bizarre moments, including one where Reynolds performed several "doughnut" manuevers while driving on a Hollywood freeway overpass.
