Officers said someone passing by saw the woman lying with a large dog that was not on a leash. The person passing by said the woman was allegedly making incoherent statements.

Police arrived at the scene but did not see the dog. They claim the dog lunged at them and they fatally shot it.

The woman was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

No other injuries were reported.
