Palmdale Class Need Votes To Win $10K Classroom Makeover

PALMDALE (CBS) — A class of fifth grade students in Palmdale are hoping to win a classroom makeover after vandals ransacked their classroom, stole their money for new books and broke a classmate's special learning learning tool.

Mr. Bootz's class at the Palmdale Learning Plaza returned to school after the Thanksgiving holiday last year to find a destroyed classroom. Desks were ransacked, personal items stolen, money for new books and charity drives gone. The handheld teacher whiteboard was thrown onto a tile floor, crayons were scattered everywhere and the window of the classroom was shattered.

The vandals, were were later arrested by deputies, also broke 11-year-old Joseph Davis' imaging technology, which helps him write, read and magnify words and hear better.

The class is among 10 schools across the nation in the running for a $10,000 classroom makeover. But they need votes to win.

To vote for the school go to Great American Classroom Makeover and click on Palmdale Learning Plaza.
