A one-year-old child that was hospitalized following a violent crash on the 60 Freeway over the weekend has died, police said.

The crash happened on Saturday evening at around 11 p.m. on westbound lanes of SR-60 near SR-71, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officers were dispatched to the area after learning that a driver was traveling in the wrong direction when they collided head-on with another vehicle.

Two women inside of a 2018 Honda Civic were declared dead at the scene, while a one-year-old boy was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He died two days after the crash at around 9:15 a.m., said CHP Officer Chad Quin.

Authorities have not identified any of the three victims who died as a result of the crash.

They believe that the incident was triggered by a DUI driver.

He has since been identified as 24-year-old Pomona resident Rick Rodriguez. He was arrested following the crash but released to the care of a hospital where he died early Sunday morning, police said.
