SANTA ANA (CBS)  — A cook at the Orange County jail in Santa Ana was arrested Monday after being accused of touching a female inmate's breast, a sheriff's department spokesman said.

James Arroyo, 54, who works in the Intake/Release Center, 550 N. Flower St., allegedly touched the breast of an inmate he was supervising in the jail's kitchen as she was reaching for something from the top shelf of a storage closet, said Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

"Investigators also learned he engaged in inappropriate activity with other female inmates," Amormino said.

Arroyo allegedly had photos of some female inmates on his cell phone and has kept in touch with some who had been released, according to officials.

Arroyo also allegedly put money into the accounts of some female inmates, Amormino said.

Arroyo, who was booked on suspicion of sexual battery, was released Tuesday after posting bail, according to jail records.

Arroyo has worked for the sheriff's department for six years, Amormino said. He has been placed on administrative leave, but Amormino said he did not know if it was paid or unpaid.
