OC Attorney Accused Of Stealing Thousands From Widow
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — An Orange County attorney has been charged with stealing $117,000 from a widow after representing her in a case regarding her late husband's life insurance policy.
The district attorney's office says 55-year-old Redmond McAneny was arrested Monday and charged with one felony count of grand theft by embezzlement and a sentencing enhancement for property damage over $65,000.
Prosecutors say McAneny deposited a check for $117,000 in a trust fund account for the widow then drained the account by writing himself numerous checks with no reference to any case.
He faces up to four years in state prison if convicted.
