Newly Acquired Disneyland Property To Be Used For Storage, Not 'Star Wars' Park
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.COM) — Disneyland fans hoping the park would build a "Star Wars" or "Marvel Universe" themed attraction in Anaheim will have to keep dreaming.
Reports surfaced Tuesday that Walt Disney Co. had acquired three parcels, totaling 15 acres, across from its California Adventure attraction in Anaheim, sparking much speculation that the land would be used for new attractions.
But a Disneyland spokeswoman on Wednesday said the property will instead be used for more mundane purposes.
"With the resort's continued growth resulting in additional (employees) and a record number of guests, this property will help to support additional infrastructure needs, including warehouse and office space and parking," said Suzi Brown, a spokeswoman for Disneyland and California Adventure.
The parcels in question include the Carousel Inn and Suites at 1530 S. Harbor Blvd. in Anaheim, which Disney purchased in March according to the Los Angeles Times, as well as two large office buildings at 1515 S. Manchester Ave. and 1585 S. Manchester Ave. in Anaheim that the company purchased last year. The land is worth about $60 million, the Times reported.
Brown said Disney officials want to keep any future attractions within the "existing footprint" of the theme park.
