Mannequin Reported As Dead Body Lands 2 Women In Jail

BARSTOW (AP) — A Halloween prank led to jail for two women accused of planting a mannequin in the Southern California desert and calling 911 to report a dead body.

San Bernardino County sheriff's investigators say 39-year-old Sharron Dennis and 42-year-old Tina Jamarillo were arrested Wednesday night after deputies caught them sitting on a Barstow area hilltop near Interstate 40 with binoculars to watch emergency crews respond to the bogus call.

The Barstow Desert Dispatch says deputies, California Highway Patrol officers and military officers from the nearby Marine base responded to the report and homicide investigators were put on alert.

Deputies say they admitted planting the mannequin and placing the emergency call, saying it was simply a Halloween prank.

They were booked for investigation of filing a false police report and bail was set at $10,000 each.
