Man Gets 46 Years To Life In Shooting Of Boy, 4
LONG BEACH (AP) — Jurors have convicted a man of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon for a Long Beach shooting that severely injured a 4-year-old boy who was shot in the head in the yard where he played.
Jurors also acquitted 47-year-old James Leland Landrum Sr. of two counts of attempted murder Monday but found him guilty of being a felon with a firearm.
Landrum was arrested in Texas two days after the July 2009 shooting.
Prosecutors say Landrum pulled a gun and fired once after his fight with another man spilled into the street.
The bullet struck Josue Hercules, leaving him in a coma for several days. Attorneys say the boy recovered but has ongoing problems.
Landrum faces 46 years to life when he is sentenced April 11.
