Man Fatally Struck By Car While Darting Across Freeway In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBS) — A man darting across a freeway transition road in Long Beach was struck and killed Sunday, California Highway Patrol officers reported.

The pedestrian was struck at about 12:55 a.m., the CHP said.

Ernest Borrayo was driving a 1992 Honda about 40 mph on the two-lane transition road when he spotted a man crossing the ramp. Borrayo applied the brakes but was unable to avoid hitting the man.

Paramedics rushed Gustavo Paredes, a 30-year-old resident of Azusa, to Long Beach Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Borrayo, 23, suffered lacerations to his face and hands in attempting to stop his car. He was not cited or arrested.
