Male Nurse Sentenced To 2 Years In Prison For Sexual Relations With Corpse

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  A 62-year-old male nurse was sentenced to two years behind bars Thursday for having sexual contact with a woman's remains.

The District Attorney's Office announced that Alejandro Razo of Reseda will serve the two years in state prison, including 180 days in county jail.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Thomas Rubinson also ordered Razo to attend sexual-offender meetings and weekly psychological counseling during his supervised release.

Razo also must stay away from Sherman Oaks Hospital, where he was employed at the time of the offense.

A jury found him guilty on June 26 of sexual contact with human remains.

Over his 20-year career, Razo worked at various healthcare facilities. He was working for Sherman Oaks Hospital in January 2013 when he was assigned to care for an 82-year-old woman. When the woman died of natural causes, Razo was tasked with preparing her body for the mortuary, according to court testimony.

While Razo was alone with the deceased, another nurse walked into the room and discovered Razo with his pants down, having sexual contact with the woman's corpse, the prosecutor said. DNA evidence also was used in his conviction, Deputy District Attorney Pamela Revel said.
