Lawyer: Muslim Students Called Before Grand Jury

IRVINE (AP) — An attorney says six Muslim students arrested at the University of California, Irvine, last year for interrupting a speech by Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren have appeared before a criminal grand jury.

Carol Sobel told The Associated Press on Friday that she represents six of 11 students who were arrested last February.

Sobel says the students were subpoenaed by an Orange County grand jury that is considering criminal charges in the case. The district attorney's office declined to comment.

The university temporarily revoked the Muslim Student Union's charter and placed it on probation for two years.

Oren was forced to stop his speech on U.S.-Israeli security for 20 minutes.
