LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man who says Los Angeles police officers beat and kicked him unconscious has filed a lawsuit alleging civil rights violations.
The federal suit, filed Friday, says 22-year-old Clinton Alford Jr. was riding his bicycle home shortly after noon on Oct. 16 in South Los Angeles when an officer tried to stop him.
Alford says he got scared and ran away. Alford says he was chased down and didn't resist arrest but was kicked so forcefully that he blacked out and lost a filling.
A store camera captured the incident.
The suit names the city, Police Chief Charlie Beck and five officers.
Cmdr. Andrew Smith says the officers are on paid leave as the LAPD investigates. He says the department wants anyone with information to come forward.
