Knife-Wielding Man Sought At Cal State Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are searching for a knife-wielding man who accosted a female student in a parking structure on the campus of California State University Long Beach.

The woman was attacked about 2:20 p.m. Monday inside Parking Structure 1 at the north end of the campus near the Pyramid, according to campus police.

A man called campus police about about an hour later "reporting that his daughter was attacked at CSULB earlier that day," police said in a statement.

The man told police his daughter was walking to her car on the fourth level of the structure when she was approached by an unknown man. She grabbed the knife and injured her hand, police said.

The suspect dropped the knife and picked it up again, then ran south from the fourth level of Parking Structure 1.

The woman drove herself to a hospital to be treated and was in good condition, CSULB's Terri Carbaugh said.

The suspect was described as white, in his 20s and about 5 feet 8 inches and wore a blue baseball cap, eyeglasses, a navy blue T-shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on the crime can call CSULB campus police at (562) 985-4101.
