Jim Carrey's Ex-Girlfriend Found Dead Of Apparent Suicide

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA.com) — Actor Jim Carrey's on-again, off-again girlfriend died of an apparent suicide in Sherman Oaks, authorities said Tuesday.

Cathriona White, 30, of Sherman Oaks was found dead at a home in the 15000 block of Briarwood Drive at about 8 p.m. Monday, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.

White apparently committed suicide with pills, Winter said, adding that an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death. She tweeted a farewell message Thursday night.

Carrey, 53, issued a statement saying he was "shocked and saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona."

"She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled," he said. "My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit by a lightning bolt."

Carrey and White met in 2012 and dated a few months before breaking up.

They had gotten back together in May but recently broke up again. As recently as Sept. 16, Carrey tweeted a photo of himself in New York's Grand Central Station that he said was taken by White.

A suicide note was addressed to Carrey, according to celebrity news website TMZ.com.

The American Foundation For Suicide Prevention on Tuesday was reminding people with thoughts of suicide to call its hotline at 1-800-273-TALK.
