An hours-long standoff with an allegedly armed suspect came to an end when police opened fire early Tuesday evening in Harbor City.

They were called to the 25700 block of Belle Porte Avenue just after 10:20 a.m. for reports of a man who had a gun, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Upon arrival, they were unable to find the man so they deployed a team of K9 officers that led them to a shed in the backyard of a home in the area.

Despite attempts to persuade the man to surrender, which included calling a SWAT team to the area, the standoff continued well into the evening.

At some point, SWAT officers established containment of the area and shot the man. Even so, the man did not immediately surrender.

Eventually he was taken into custody before he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment on gunshot wounds. His condition was not immediately known.

As SkyCal arrived over the scene of the standoff, the man could be seen as he was loaded into the back of an ambulance.

No further information was provided.
