SAN DIEGO (AP) — Heavy rains have forced widespread road closures in San Diego, hampering Christmas shoppers and stranding some hotel guests.

San Diego police Lt. Andra Brown said the first floor of the Premier Inn flooded Wednesday, and surrounding roads were inundated. That forced guests to the second floor, where lifeguards were sent to rescue them.
SeaWorld San Diego closed, though spokeswoman Kelly Terry says the park suffered no damage. Access was severely limited at Fashion Valley Mall, one of the region's largest and most upscale shopping malls.
A commuter rail system in north San Diego County suspended service because flooding near San Diego's Sorrento Valley station prevented crews from inspecting tracks. The North County Transit District's Coaster line serves about 6,000 passengers on weekdays.
