Former Carson City Council Candidate Calls For Obama Assassination On Facebook
CARSON (CBS) — Jules Manson, a former Carson City Council candidate is under investigation by the Secret Service after calling for the assassination of President Obama and his daughters on his Facebook page.
Along with a headline about Obama signing the National Defense Authorization Act, Manson posted "Assassinate the [expletive] [n-word] and his monkey children."
The words brought three Secret Service agents to Manson's door. He then posted about the federal investigation on his Facebook page, saying he allowed the agents to search his home and computer.
Manson received instant backlash to his Facebook post. A nearly 40-year resident of Carson, his neighbors are none too pleased about the negative attention.
"My brother is the mayor of Carson," said Municipal Water District Board Director Don Dear. "These folks are concerned about the reputation of their community."
Dear taught Manson in school years ago. "He was a bright young man," said Dear. "I wouldn't consider him to be a credible threat, but one never knows."
Manson did not return CBS2's request for an interview, but he told the Daily Breeze, "I deeply regret it and I'm deeply shamed by it. I cannot express how much I wish I had not done that."
Carson Public Relations Commissioner Zeke Vidaurri says, "It'll take a long time to recover from something like that, even if you regret it."
Manson is a mechanical engineer and environmental chemist. His website states he is a member of the Libertarian Party.
The Secret Service says that while Manson has a right to free speech, they are investigating his intentions. If malicious intent is found, the US Attorney's Office will file charges.
