Fire Damages Wood Shop At James Monroe High School
NORTH HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Officials are investigating the cause of a fire at a San Fernando Valley high school Friday.
The fire broke out around 2:40 a.m. in the wood shop room at James Monroe High School in the 9200 block of Haskell Avenue in North Hills, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said.
The fire was in a free-standing building and did not spread to surrounding structures.
It took 94 firefighters about 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze, LAFD's Brian Humphrey said.
Despite the fire, classes will resume as scheduled Friday morning.
"It's gonna affect the emotion of school for sure, but will it affect classes? I don't see it affecting classes at this time," Assistant Principal Tom Jones said. "We'll just relocate in some other open classrooms."
No injuries were reported.
After a preliminary investigation, officials say there is no reason to believe the fire was started intentionally.
