Family Of Riverside Teen Behind Viral Video Fall Victim To Prank
RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — The family of a Riverside teen who got his 15 minutes of fame with a viral video fell victim to a prank call that led a SWAT team to their home.
"Back at it again with the white Vans," said one boy in the video, which depicts two students at Riverside Polytechnic High School.
The kids can be heard chuckling over one of the boys wearing white Vans sneakers to school.
Over several days, there has been some debate over whether the boy on-camera, Daniel, is getting what an older generation would call "props" for looking fly or being dissed.
But it was no laughing matter early Tuesday morning when the boy behind the video got some unwanted attention.
Riverside police say they showed up in force after they got a call about a murder at the home where the video-maker lives, which turned out to be a prank.
CBS2 attempted to talk with the boy and his parents seen on-camera entering a limousine. The driver said he was sent to the home from L.A. to pick up the family.
A number of students, who have classes with the boys, say neither of them showed up to school Tuesday.
Classmates also said they have been taking part in a social media campaign to get them on a talk show.
In the meantime, Riverside police say they are trying to determine who made the prank call. They say the person responsible could be charged with a misdemeanor and/or be fined.
