Ex-Attorney Gets 3 Years In Federal Prison For Accepting Bribes In Grand Jury Probe

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A former attorney from West Hills was sentenced Thursday to three years in federal prison for accepting $50,000 to guarantee that a client would lie to prosecutors conducting a grand jury probe.

Alfred Nash Villalobos, 46, was also ordered to serve three years under supervised release after serving prison time.

Villalobos was found guilty last year of endeavoring to obstruct a grand jury investigation and interfering with interstate commerce by extortion, Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Akrotirianakis said.

The Los Angeles federal jury that returned the guilty verdicts against Villalobos determined that in 2009, he solicited cash and other compensation totaling more than $100,000 from the target of a federal grand jury investigation.

Villalobos agreed to get his client, a witness in the probe, to lie to the prosecutor and the grand jury in exchange for the payments.
