Early Season Storm Brings First Snowfall To Big Bear
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — Skies are clearing and chilly in the wake of a blustery storm that brought an early October snowfall to Southern California mountains and showers and isolated thunderstorms elsewhere.
The storm that swept through Wednesday and early Thursday brought less than a tenth of an inch of rain to most locations.
But the National Weather Service says some areas received greater amounts, including up to three-quarters of an inch in the San Gabriel Mountains.
To the east, in the Big Bear ski resort region of the San Bernardino Mountains, Caltrans says chains are required on most vehicles on a stretch of State Route 18.
Wednesday's high in downtown Los Angeles was 29 degrees below Sunday's maximum of 93. The average October high is 79 degrees.
The early season storm has residents Wrightwood expecting big crowds over the next few days.
"There should be lots of people up this weekend if it sticks, but the first snow is always quiet and very, very enjoyable," said one woman.
