2 men in custody after reports of gunfire at downtown Los Angeles apartment building

Two men are in custody following an hours-long incident at a downtown Los Angeles high-rise apartment building, which led to a heavy police response in the area. The Los Angeles Police Department had issued a tactical alert on Wednesday morning after receiving reports of gunfire at the Broadway Palace building.

The LAPD posted on X that officers received reports of "shots fired, heard only" around 5:32 a.m. near the 900 block of Broadway. Responding officers requested additional resources "out of an abundance of caution" while they actively searched the large apartment complex for any potential suspects, victims, or evidence relating to the incident.

As of 9:43 a.m., the LAPD said no reported victims were linked to the incident. After several hours, the police provided an update that there was a barricaded suspect and SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams had been called to set up containment lines. They continued to advise residents in the area to shelter in place and follow police orders.

SkyCal flew over the scene where several officers could be seen entering the apartment building wearing tactical gear.

The initial closure of Broadway between Ninth Street and Olympic Boulevard expanded to include Eighth and Ninth streets between Hill and Main streets. Buses were detoured around the area, with service reinstated by 1 p.m., according to LA Metro.

It is unclear what led up to the shooting incident.
