Hostage Suspect Killed In Long Beach Officer Involved Shooting

LONG BEACH (CBS) — A man was fatally shot by police in Long Beach Friday afternoon.

The incident began around 12:15 p.m. at a home in the 6100 block of Rosebay Street. Authorities say the suspect allegedly held his in-laws hostage and called his estranged wife to alert her. The suspect's wife then called Long Beach police.

"She spoke with the individual over the phone and he told her if he seen police at all he would kill her parents," Lisa Massacani of the Long Beach Police Department said.

The SWAT team later engaged in standoff with the suspect. He was fatally shot a few hours later when he came out of the home, Long Beach police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect's identity was not released. No officers were injured.
