Deputies: Sylmar Couple Had Half-Pound Of Cocaine Next To 5-Year-Old Son In Back Seat Of Vehicle

MOORPARK (CBSLA.com) — A Sylmar couple was arrested Friday on suspicion of selling cocaine to teenagers and young adults in Ventura County.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, Marco Cuevas, 31, was arrested in Moorpark on charges of possession for sale of cocaine, conspiracy to sell cocaine, child endangerment and multiple weapons violations including being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

His wife, Sandy Cuevas, 29, was arrested on suspicion of possession for sale of cocaine, conspiracy to sell cocaine and child endangerment, deputies said.

In July and August, the Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit conducted several investigations due to an increase in cocaine use and sales in the area to teenagers and young adults.

As a result, detectives said, they determined that majority of the sales originated from Cuevas.

During an investigation, detectives said they saw him selling cocaine to a Ventura County resident and learned that he was involved in the sale of guns.

Authorities took Cuevas into custody in an area where he was suspected of going to engage in a cocaine deal, authorities explained.

Deputies said he had several ounces of cocaine on him and an additional half-pound of cocaine in the backseat of his vehicle where his 5-year-old son was.
