Teenagers Discover Decomposing Body Of Baby In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A decomposing body of a baby in Long Beach was discovered Tuesday afternoon by a couple of teenagers.

The unthinkable find was made at the corner of 67th Street and Gardenia Avenue, a residential area.

It was there that police say they were dispatched about 4:22 p.m. to assist firefighters.

An initial call reported a dead infant that appeared to have been burned.

When police arrived, they determined that the body had not been burned but was decomposed.

"It's very heartbreaking. It's very sad to know that people like that just abandon their kids in the street. I don't even know what to say," said a woman who lives just feet away from where the infant was found.

She's expecting a child herself and cannot fathom how this could happen.

"I've been here for eight years and I've never seen anything like this," she said.

Police don't know whether the infant was a boy or girl or even if it was born alive.

No arrests have been made.

Police said a cause of death has yet to be determined.
