Critically Injured Shooting Victim Found Near Azusa

AZUSA (CBS) — A man who had been shot three times was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday after he was rescued from the Angeles National Forest.

The victim, who suffered three gunshot wounds to his back, was found at Mile Marker 20.22 on San Gabriel Canyon Road near Highway 39 after an anonymous caller contacted authorities around 1:30 a.m., Sgt. Everett Rodriguez of the Los Angeles County sheriff's San Dimas Station said.

Paramedics reportedly had trouble keeping the victim conscious as he was being driven to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora, Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Paul Rusin said.

The man was then airlifted to County-USC Medical Center, where he was undergoing surgery, Rodriguez said.

Deputies were searching for a black BMW that was reportedly leaving the area where the victim turned up, Rodriguez said.
